Illustration for Indianama 2024
‘Lost and Found’

Indianama 2024 invited artists to design a postage stamp from an inventory of ‘Lost’ or ‘Found’ objects /ideology /history and concept, that define India’s legacy.

Located on the Silk route, Taxila University’s historic identity spanning 1500 years, across seven different empires, invited a convergence of cultures and philosophies that flourished further with the emergence of Buddhism.

In my design, I was curious to reflect upon this vast exchange of knowledge taking place across time and space. Symbols and motifs informed by the excavated art and coinage, myths and writings from travellers weave a tapestry, offering us histories which are in conversation with each other, histories that reject homogenisation or easy categorisation and speak of coexistence.
